Final Assignment

Dream Space For User "Hideout" (Bruce Lee)

From this project, I learn how to generate design concept and ideas to design a hideout for Bruce Lee. I had done lots of research, sketches and models before proceeding to final model. I have to consider lots of perspective such as the dimension of the space, the relationship and activities of user to the space, experiencing sunlight and shadow and the list goes on. Furthermore, I learn to explain human activities and function of the space through different drawings such as plans, sections and elevations. In addition, I want to thank Ms Indrani for giving advice and criticism in order to help me to accomplish this project. I really appreciate it and I hope I still have chances to be one of the students under her tutorial group.

Project 2

Site Analysis

From this project, I learn to analyse and compile the physical and chemical properties of different materials. I learn to identify the building materials of the building and how they affect the aesthetics and structural qualities of the building. Different materials can bring out different concept and climate to the space. Besides, my group members help each others when someone is in hot water in order to accomplish this project.

Project 1

Miracle Joint

Building material is any material which is used for a construction purpose. This project is designed as an introduction to building materials that are commonly used in the local construction industry. Students are required to construct their choice of shapes using the listed materials to explore and understand building making in relation to the materials, design considerations of material according to their properties and to finally understand how to intrinsic forms, limitations and boundaries of a material factor in a design process.

Project 1B

Life Capsule

Project 1 is where we have to analyse and interpret our self-identity and design a mask that reveals our most powerful identity.  A mask is an object normally worn on the face for protection, disguise, performance or entertainment. In contrast with its main usage to covering and hiding, we are required to use that for revealing.

I have chosen cheerful as my personality. My concept is colourful where my mask is designed with rainbow colours. Each colour represents different characteristics of mine.
Through this project, I am able to produce objects to communicate ideas and also explore one form of generating design concept or idea. Lastly, I am able to construct a representational piece of art based on initial ideas that have been abstracted through the process of translation and interpretation.

Project 1A

Self Expression

Project 2c

Perspective

learned to express spatial ideas and architectural detail in three-dimension, in the format of one-point and two-point perspectives. From this project, I get to understand of what perspectives are, how to generate them and how to apply them to the design process and presentation. I find perspectives are interesting and also enable me to produce legible architectural drawings with strong creative intent.

Project 2B

Axonometric

Through this project, I have the ability to express spatial ideas and architectural detail in three-dimension, in the format of an isometric projection. I also understand of what axonometric and isometric projections are, how to generate them and how to apply them to the design process and presentation.  I find this project is the toughest among the others as this was the first time I am doing this.

Project 2A

Orthographic Projection

We were to draw up orthographic drawings of Farnsworth House in this project. Through this project, I am able to demonstrate drafting skills in modern and traditional methods of architectural drawing. I am also able to identify and apply architectural conventions and symbols. The orthographic drawings is demonstrated in ink of different line weights, line types and also written in architectural hand lettering.

Project 1B

Tonal Value

We were to choose one object for this project. Based on the selected image, we are required to produce four variations of a tonal value sketch. This is to build upon our previous assignment where we develop our skills in creating depth and tone in a sketch and thus enhancing to produce an architectural sketch that is legible.
It was quite an enjoyable project. I am able to understand the notion of space and detailing's in architecture and objects. I have also developed skills in communicating in various tonal and depths.

Project 1A

On Site Sketching

We are required to engage with the site by experiencing it through a spatial sequence of our choice in this project. While moving in sequence, we are required to record our observation and perception of the spaces and the human habitation of these spaces through free-hand sketches where we need to include both exterior and interior spaces.
From this project, I get to understand the notion of space in architecture and also develop skills in visualising of space through observation and perception of a given site. This project also taught me how to develop skills in sketching as a mode of communication.

Assignment 3

A2 Board

The last task was where we were required to translate all the information from the sketchbook into an A2 board. By changing the form of presentation of information, we were able to get a clearer overview of what we have studied on throughout this project.

Assignment 2

Sketch Book Journal

In the assignment 2, we were required to create a sketchbook in relation to the information we have gathered and present it in illustration form to further enhance our understanding towards the building.

Assignment 1 (online forum)

Culture and History 1 is a module where I got to learn about the architectural styles in different periods of human civilization. From pre-historic times to Roman to Gothic, architecture is ever-changing, ever-evolving, ever-inspiring.
